Extension • Henleaze, Bristol

This semi detached house has been extended to the side and rear at ground floor level to provide additional space for this family house as well as creating a more contemporary living space, which links the house with the garden.

The rear corner of the house has been cleverly removed at ground floor level with structural beams supporting the external walls above to create a large open plan kitchen and eating space without the need of a column support. Essential storage, utility and cloakroom spaces are accommodated down the remaining length of the property in a long narrow side extension.

The house also has a loft conversion providing master bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a new purpose made timber staircase, which extends the existing balustrade detail up into the loft space.

Client Comments

When we initially looked for a practice to make our designs we found that most of our friends and associates were not satisfied with those that they had chosen. The ones who had used the services of Grazebrook Architects were very positive which was a key influence for us selecting them and an initial meeting confirmed to us that it would work.

The experience of engaging Grazebrook Architects to work with us was very much a journey where we started off with woolly ideas of what it was that we wanted and what we could afford. At the end of the design phase we were absolutely clear about what were going to get which made the tender and build processes far more straight forward. Some of the money spent with Grazebrook up front during design and planning was certainly saved later on, along with a huge reduction in the amount of stress we would have had.

In summary, Grazebroook Architects provided us with a very professional service which helped us get a house that we are now very satisfied with and we can highly recommend them.
